Match Details

South Africa Women vs Bangladesh Women, 20th Match, Group A – ICC Women’s World T20 2018

November 18, 2018

Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia

Venue

Formerly known as the Beausejour Stadium, the venue was renamed as the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium following Darren Sammy-led West Indies’ dramatic World Twenty20 triumph in 2016.

Constructed in 2002, the stadium became the first ground in the West Indies to stage a floodlight ODI when the hosts welcomed Zimbabwe for a 50-over match in 2006.

The 1st T20 international at the venue was played in 2010 when India took on Afghanistan at the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 and there has been 17 T20Is since here, with six of them coming at the ongoing 2018 Women’s World T20.

The surface is not a high scoring one with the average first innings score in T20Is being a modest 138. Toss doesn’t play a major role though as the pitch offers an equal chance for both sides with the team batting first winning ten times while the team chasing has won eight times.

Preview

The final group stage fixture at the 2018 Women’s World T20 will bear no significance with both South Africa and Bangladesh out of the reckoning already as far as progress to the semi-finals stage is concerned.

Bangladesh Women have lost all of their three games so far while South Africa’s only win has come against Sri Lanka women on Monday.

Batting has been the issue for both teams with South Africa Womens’ successful chase of the 100-run target against Sri Lanka Women the only instance where either of them have managed to cross the three-figure mark.

The bowlers have been impressive though, with Shabnim Ismail and Jahanara Alam leading the way for South Africa and Bangladesh respectively with six wickets each. The two captains – Bangladesh’s Salma Khatun and South Africa’s Dane van Niekerk have also shined with the ball.

Saturday’s match will be more about who bowls better as it could be a low-scoring affair considering how the teams have batted so far in the tournament. The Proteas definitely have the edge though, having lost to Sunday’s opponents only once in their nine previous T20I meetings – that too way back in 2012.
